The Game Awards 20XX

[hynde]

VGA/VGX-gaalan manttelin perii The Game Awards -gaala, joka järjestetään tänä vuonna Las Vegasissa suomenaikaan perjantain ja lauantain välisenä yönä 6.12. klo 04:00. SpikeTV:n sijaan gaalan takana on kolme isoa eli Nintendo, Sony ja Microsoft. Illan järjestelyistä vastaa tuottajan roolissa Geoff Keighley yhdessä nimekkään neuvonantajaryhmänsä(mm. Hideo Kojima, Peter Moore, Reggie Fils-Aime, Phil Spencer) kanssa. Luvassa on palkitsemisia, pelijulkistuksia, trailereita tulevista peleistä ja musiikkiesityksiä. Suoraa lähetystä voi seurata useammasta lähteestä mm. PSN, Xbox Live, WiiU, Steam, Twitch, YouTube, IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, niconico, MLG.

Hiemanhan tuo laskee mielenkiintoa, mutta odotukset on kuitenkin kovat multiplattareiden ja Sonyn suhteen. Vuonna 2010 Bethesda julkisti Skyrimin VGA:ssa, joten miksei nyt olisi Fallout 4:n vuoro, ainakin toivon niin. Onkos muilla mitään toiveita/odotuksia pelijulkistusten suhteen?

Tapahtuman kotisivuilla lukee PSN, mutta se onkin sitten epäselvää, miten PS4:llä homma käytännössä toimii, luultavasti jonkin sovelluksen kautta (Edit: Kokeilin PS4:n YouTuben kautta hakemalla "thegameawards" ja sieltä kanavalta löytyi sama lähetys kuin alla oleva tubelinkki). Mutta ainakin alla olevista linkeistä pitäisi suoralähetys näkyä.

Sehän oli pitkä kuin nälkävuosi. Oikeaan suuntaan oli menty, mutta mikään ei tapa tunnelmaa, niin tehokkaasti kuin "whoooo!" ja "yeaaah!" hirnahtelut puheen tai videon taustalla. Erityisplussaa varsin hienosti toteutetusta Sierra-muistelosta. Pelijulkistuksissa ei oikeastaan mitään pommeja pudonnut, mutta muutamia mielenkiintoisia projekteja julkistettiin kuten Before, Adr1ft ja King's Quest. Nyt lataamaan akkuja PlayStation Experienceä varten.

Hyvä show oli. Taisi kyllä tuo viimeinen yllätys jäädä näkemättä Youtuben puolella kuitenkin. Sen deadmausin jälkeen piti siis tulla jokin traileri vielä vai kuinka?

Parasta oli Westwood Studiosin muistaminen ja tribuutti Iwatalle. Iso lampaanperse Konamin suuntaan, joka ei päästänyt Kojimaa paikan päälle lakijutun uhalla. Propsit Keighleylle, joka kertoi asian niin kuin se on suorassa lähetyksessä. Kokonaisuudessaan parempaan suuntaan mentiin viime vuodesta, vaikka megatonneja ei enää pudotella VGA-tyyliin.

Onko jollain käsitystä siitä, miten korkealle palkintoja noteerataan teollisuuden piirissä?

Mutulla sanon, että GDC ja BAFTA ovat arvostetuimmat kuten vaikkapa Academy Awards eli Oscarit ja Golden Globes leffapuolella. The Game Awardsista on vielä vaikea sanoa, kun se on järjestetty vasta muutamaan otteeseen, mutta on se valovuoden edellä VGA-gaalaa, josta oli arvokkuus kaukana.
