Grand Theft Auto: Vice City follows up on one of the most popular videogames of all time, Grand Theft Auto III. If you have heard of anything about games in the last years, you should have heard of this game, because it's this year's most impressive title, by a log shot. Vice City is nearly twice as large as GTAIII, including interiors, waterways, and airspace, and it clearly delivers a more integrated storyline in the missions, a huge array of vehicles, and some very oddball characters, likeable or not. The game offers an immense landscape that vast and detailed, and is backed up by a long list of actors voicing characters, and a AAA handpicked soundtrack that's vintage '80s. The game offers some solutions to last year's effort, namely in graphics, control, framerate, and streaming technology, though it doesn't succeed in full. Combat control still remains difficult and annoying, framerates drop low often, and there are substantial camera issues, generally revolving around collision detection and clipping. But you know what, despite the fact that this game plays a lot like last year's effort, and that it still has its fair share of problems, GTA: Vice City is still one of the most impressive games of 2002, without a doubt. It's highly recommendable, as long as you pay attention to the M rating. If you own a PS2, I strong urge you to get it.

Presentation
The deliberate '80s style presentation fits the bill, but it's not quite as classy as last year's affair. 9.3
Graphics
While the textures and streaming are better, this game isn't about pretty graphics so much as it about size, scale, and volume, which is where it succeeds most. 8.6
Sound
Would you like to sample 100-plus songs from vintage '80s radio. You got it. Plus, Ray Liotta is perfectly cast as Tommy Vercetti. 9.8
Gameplay
The new vehicles add a lot of value, and the game is still unbelieveably massive in scope. Camera control and gun control are decent, though not perfect. 9.6
Lasting Appeal
What can you say about this game? It's easily 60 hours long, perhaps 100 hours long. No other action games come close. 9.5
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 9.7
