Toshiba on julkistanut 51-gigaisen HD-DVD-levyn:

Toshiba continues to improve HD DVD storage capacity. At the HD DVD Promotion Group's press conference this evening, the company announced it has developed 51GB triple-layer rewritable and ROM media.

This capacity is up from the companys previous explorations of a higher-capacity 45GB triple-layer disc. Currently, HD DVD maxes out at a 30GB dual-layer disc. This capacity is 1GB greater than rival Blu-ray Disc, which tops out at 50GB.

Porn Industry ends format wars, chooses HD DVD

When asked why they preferred the HD DVD better than the Blu-Ray, companies such as Pink Visual and Bangbros have pointed out that Blu-Ray is just too expensive. According to the spokesperson of Bangbros,

Blu-ray has superior quality, yes, but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360.

Meanwhile, Pink Visual's complaint was that "Blu-ray discs cannot be replicated", and other companies also agreed that the sheer cost of producing their movies on Blu-Ray does not make it a good candidate as a possible HD solution for their line of work.

Hmm, nyt pukkaa tällaista uutista.

Reports came in last week from Heise (English report) claiming that the adult entertainment industry has chosen HD DVD as the format of choice. The aforementioned report, however, conflicted with a DailyTech interview with Vivid Entertainment Group founder Steven Hirsh where the exec stated his company plans on backing both high-definition formats.

DailyTech decided to clear the smoke surrounding the format war issue by speaking with Steven Hirsh on his plans for both high-definition formats.

DailyTech was originally told that Vivid plans on supporting both formats, with the companys first Blu-ray and HD DVD release on March 28, 2006 to be Debbie Does DallasAgain, which conflicted with the original Heise report.

When asked if there would be any content or quality differences between the releases, we were told that the quality of the two releases should be the same. We believe, however, that Vivid is not only the first to offer a movie in both HD DVD and Blu-ray formats, but also the first to offer in these formats with multiple angle options.

Rob Wiesenthal, chief financial officer of Sony's U.S. operations added, "In Japan, about 96% of the hardware being sold for high-definition format are coming from the Blu-ray family. It's a format with over 100 different CE manufacturers. Obviously we have the launch coming up in Europe for PS3. So we are feeling very good about that.

Sony points out that the top five films of last year - as well as the top 11 of 15 - were all released exclusively on Blu-ray.

After over six months of head-to-head combat, we finally have an all-inclusive independent yardstick against which to compare Blu-ray and HD DVD disc sales, thanks to the first public release of sales numbers from Neilsen VideoScan.

Discshop.fi myy World Trade Centeriä (se leffa) hintaan 44,95 . On siinä leffalla hintaa. Täytyy sitten kattoa joku 200 kertaa että saa rahoilleen vastinetta. Siis Hd-Dvd oli tuo.
Sitten kesällä kun vedetään yhditetty olohuone/keittiö/makuuhuone uuteen uskoon viihde-elektroniikan saralla niin täytyy kyllä tarkkaan miettiä mitä leffoja ostaa hd-dvd:llä ja mitä nokuna. Joku "Kiukun parempi puoli" ei välttämättä parane senttiäkään vaikka sen katsoisi millä resolla tahansa, mut sit joku kunnon mättö vääntö mis paukkuu kokoajan, eli toisin sanoen vuoden efektileffa, on varmasti 100-kertaa viihdyttävämpi isolla resolla.

Showing that the sudden drop in HD DVD sales in the first quarter was likely due to the temporary limited amount of new releases, HD DVD sales ROARED back to life in late March, as scores of new releases made their way back into the release pipeline and onto store shelves.

As you will recall from my last opinion piece on the sales of both formats, there was a surge in Bluray movie sales after the Christmas launch of the PS3 but not nearly enough, in my opinion, to eliminate the peoples choice, HD DVD, from the competitive landscape. I predicted that some of these new PS3 owners would have an initial curiosity which would result in a sales surge for Bluray particularly as Sony included discount vouchers for the movies with each PS3 sold.

Ainakin HD-DVD-lättyset ovat halvempia valmistaa, kun niitä voidaan produsoida ilman kokonaan uusien tuotantolinjojen rakentamista.
