Koronavirus ja Switch
Impact of COVID-19 on Switch supply / sales in Japan
- Nintendo confirmed production impact on Feb 6th.
- Led to lower OG Switch stock, partially offset by Lite.
- Units stockpiled for AC launch, best week for Switch ever.
- Shortage in April.
- 2020 YTD sales up 75%
Shortages have been common for Nintendo Switch around the world, not just in Japan. Primarily due to:
- Shutdown of production during February
- Global supply chain and logistics issues.
- Gradual re-opening during March.
- Higher than expected demand due to AC/Covid-19.
Nintendo has been struggling to meet demand because:
- Surge in at home gaming due to COVID-19
- Animal Crossing has gone viral, more than a system seller.
- Shortage announcements led to increased buying.
Sales are notably up YoY. Supply should be good towards end of Q2.
