Soon-to-be-released PlayStation 2 titles SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs and Syphon Filter®: The Omega Strain, published by Sony Computer Entertainment America, will be among the first to utilize the Hard Disk Drive with new content for consumers to download.
In addition to the gaming content, the internal Hard Disk Drive will also include a customized media player specifically designed for PlayStation 2. Jahas, ja koska eräät järkevät pelit vievät 1.5 megaa ja DVD-ajurit 2 megaa, minulla on jo 2 muistikorttia ja mietin vaan että jos ostaa tavallisen PC:n kovon niin saakohan sen noilla ohjeilla PS2 yhteensopivaksi niin, että saisi noita tallennuksia tuonne ja esim. jonkun mediaplayerin jostakin, sitten PC:ltä siirtää mp3:sia PS2:n kovolle ja niitä voisi kuunnella, ei levyn vaihtoja ja paljon biisejä...

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) on vahvistanut, että Final Fantasy XI julkaistaan PlayStation 2:lle Pohjois-Amerikassa 23.3. Pelin saa ainoastaan kiintolevylle valmiiksi asennettuna ja paketin ohjehinta on 99,99 dollaria (n. 80 euroa).
IGN:n mukaan kiintolevyltä ei ennakkotiedoista poiketen löydy muita ohjelmia tai demoja. SCEA:n aikaisempien ilmoitusten mukaan ainakin SOCOM II, Syphon Filter: Omega Strain ja Gran Turismo 4 saavat jatkossa uutta sisältöä kiintolevyn ja verkkosovittimen avulla. Myös Sonyn ulkopuolisilla pelinkehittäjillä on suunnitelmia kiintolevyn varalle.

The Disc includes the HDD compatible browser, additional system configuration settings, and CD software. For those of you who own a PS2 remote controller, the Utility disc upgrades that software. For those who didn't have DVD playback settings, the Utility Disc will install it.

Players manage their data using folders, so you can copy, move, or rename folders on the HDD, and you can copy data from the (SCPH-10020u) memory card to a folder on the HDD. You can also change configuration settings for both mouse and keyboard. But can you use the HDD to save game data in the future, bypassing the memory card altogether? FFXI instantly saves to the HDD, SCEA officials said. But with regard to other games, SCEA officials said "we haven't made any announcements about that."
