Eli Jack Thompsonhan on tämä heppu joka syyttää väkivaltapelejä suoltavaa peliteollisuutta vähintään joka toisesta alaikäisten tekemästä murhasta, taposta tai muusta väkivallanteosta. Jackin lempikohteita ovat Rockstar ja Jenkeissä ikärajoista päättävä ESRB.

Tapahtui viime jaksossa:

National Institute on Media and the Family sanoutui irti yhteyksistään Thompsoniin, joka oli aikaisemmin kertonut järjestön tukevan hänen näkemyksiään. Thompson iski takaisin kertomalla, että NIMF:in merkittäviä tukijoita ovat Target-tavarataloketju sekä Best Buy -ketjuun yhteydessä oleva hyväntekeväisyysjärjestö. Thompson on haastamassa molempia kauppaketjuja oikeuteen Rockstarin Bully-pelin tiimoilta, joten hänen mukaansa NIMF:in irtisanoutumisen syyt ovat selvät.

Anyway, tässä jossain välissä Thompson lähetti tapansa mukaan ympäri pelimediaa mailin, jossa hän lupasi lahjoittaa 10000$ hyväntekeväisyyteen jos joku tekee pelin, jossa mm. tapetaan kovasti Rockstarin pomon kanssa samannimisen hahmon perhe ja muuta vastaavaa.
Noh, harrastelijakoodaajat ottivat haasteen vastaan ja viime viikonloppuna ilmestyi parikin peliä (tekstiseikkailu ja GTA-modi). Useista pyynnöistä huolimatta Thompson ei lahjoittanut rahoja, vaan selitti koko ehdotuksen olevan satiiria, jota ei odottanutkaan pelaajien ymmärtävän.

Penny Arcaden pojat olivat jälleen ajan hermoilla ja kun Thompson ei heidän pyynnöistään huolimatta suostunut lahoittamaan rahoja, päättivät he tehdä sen Thompsonin puolesta. Rahat lahjoitettiin Thompsonin nimissä Entertainment Software Association Foundation -järjestölle, joka auttaa sairaita, kehitysvammaisia yms. lapsia ja nuoria.
Thompson vastasi haastamalla Penny Arcaden oikeuteen ja väitti saitlla myytävien "I hate Jack Thompson" -paitojen olevan vain jäävuoren huippu.

I just wanted to make a quick note that the page may be up and down today. The server is getting slammed pretty hard. I just wanted to make sure you knew that if the page was down its not because of Jack. Well not directly anyway.

Some people have suggested that it might be time to start ignoring the guy and honestly thats what we had decided to do. However, that was before he tried to have us arrested. Jack is not scary, if you speak to him for even a couple minutes you realize that. Whats scary is that people in the mainstream media listen to him. I dont think we can just ignore him anymore.

Jep, pahintahan tuossa Thompsonin sekoilussa on juuri se, että tietämättömät päätöksentekijät seuraavat hänen kaltaista ristiretkeläistä kuin aasit porkkanaa ja käyttävät hänen voimakkaita kommentteja erottuakseen polittisesti. Suurin moka minkä pelaajat voivat tehdä on antaa hänen mesota rauhassa.

Viime aikoina Thompson on alkanut osoittaa todellisia järjenmenetyksen piirteitä hyökkäämällä agressiivisesti ja röyhkeästi kaikkien häntä vastustavien kimppuun. Tämän alkavat toivottavasti huomata myös oikeasti lasten ja nuorten hyvinvoinnista huolissaan olevat, kuten NIMF.

Jack Thompson oli ollut vieraana jossain CNN-uutiskanavan ohjelmassa ja tällä kertaa käynyt Midwayn Blitz: The League -jenkkifutispelin kimpuun: "NFL ei suostunut antamaan nimeään käyttöön, joten se jo kertoo jotain."

Taktisesti hän jätti mainitsematta, että ennen kuin Midway edes kertoi kehittävänsä Playmakers -tv-sarjasta insipiraationsa hakevaa Blitziä, oli EA ostanut yksinoikeuden virallisiin NFL-peleihin. :rolleyes:

Penny-Arcaden foorumeilla porukka on myös valittanut Thompsonin käytöksestä Florida Bar Associationille, joka edustaa lakimiehiä Floridassa. Järjestö eivät tienneet Thompsonin uusimmista seikkailuista mitään ja valitusaallon jälkeen he pitivät asiasta hätäkokouksen. Nyt asia on menossa asiamiehelle joka vastaa osavaltion lakimiesten etiikasta ja yleisestä käytöksestä. Parhaimmassa tapauksessa Thompson voi jopa menettää oikeutensa harjoittaa lakia faktojen vääristelyn ja hyvän tavan vastaisen käytöksen takia.

Thompson osti Take-Twon osakkeita 23.12.2005

Peliväkivaltaa lähes kaikesta syyttävä floridalainen asianajaja Jack Thompson on ostanut Take-Two Interactiven osakkeita. Take-Twon alaisuuteenhan kuuluu muun muassa Grand Theft Auto -sarjaa kehittävä Rockstar.

Kyse ei kuitenkaan ole finanssisijoituksesta, vaan Thompsonin tavoitteena on päästä mukaan yhtiön osakkeenomistajille järjestettäviin kokouksiin. Hän onkin jo vaatinut käyttöönsä langatonta mikrofonia, joten ohjelmaa on varmasti luvassa.

Thompson ilmoitti osakehankinnastaan tavalliseen tapaansa medialle lähettämässään kirjeessä, jossa hän hyökkäsi jälleen myös Take-Twon pääjohtajaa Paul Eibeleriä vastaan. Eibeler valittiin tänä vuonna Amerikan huonoimmaksi pääjohtajaksi ja Hot Coffee -skandaalin käsittely pääsi kymmenen pahimman PR-mokan joukkoon.

In a letter to California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Miami anti-games lawyer Jack Thompson suggested California police officers seize and destroy all copies of the controversial upcoming title 25 to Life. Thompson writes:

"Additionally, please know that California Civil Code Section 3495 enables and authorizes each and every law enforcement officer to walk into any video game store, without a court order, to seize and destroy each and every copy of 25 to Life. California law treats this as acceptable 'abatement' of a public nuisance by parties particularly endangered by such a nuisance... In the next six days I intend to take to the public airwaves in California, and to use other means, to encourage all law enforcement officers in California to in fact go into video game stores and seize all copies of 25 to Life."

While I highly doubt Eidos, the game's publisher, would agree with Jack's interpretation of California law, it's more disturbing that he is encouraging the destruction of content he finds inappropriate. Without getting too hyperbolic and invoking Godwin's Law, history hasn't looked favorably on all the people who've destroyed works they found offensive.

It is reported in the New York Post and in the San Francisco Chronicle that your Elevation Partners is engaged in talks to do just that. Allow me to provide some of the reasons why I make this fervent suggestion:

1. I appeared on CBS 60 Minutes twice last year on behalf of two Alabama police officers and a dispatcher killed by a teen who trained on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to kill them. We are now proceeding toward trial in our wrongful death action on their families behalf, buoyed by three affidavits sworn to by experts who have testified before the US Congress as to this copycatting phenomenon that the American Psychological Association in August 2005 says is now irrefutably proven.

Thus, if you buy Take-Two and its Grand Theft Auto franchise, you will be buying a Mature-rated murder simulator marketed and sold to teen that has been linked by law enforcement officials to numerous, specific, provable copycat killings around the country. I have appeared on roughly 70 national television programs, including NBCs Today show eight times, recounting the causation of these copycat events. More such events are on the way. Take-Two, whoever owns it, will have to deal with those pigeons when they come home to roost in the months and years ahead. Indeed, the most recent such incident tying Take-Two to murder was found in the 18-year-old Jacob Robida who went from carving up homosexuals in a gay bar in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to a sucide by cop shoot-out in Gassville, Texas. Three lay dead. Robida was an obsessive gamer, whose games included, according to detectives in Massachusetts, the Grand Theft Auto games whose scenarios he replicated precisely.

In fact, the above-noted Chronicle editorial which encourages you not to buy Take-Two mentions the Oakland, California, gang called the Nutcases, which used Take-Two Grand Theft Auto III as a carjacking and murder simulator. The older gang members trained the younger ones with the Take-Two game in order to both show how to carjack and to get pumped up to carjack. Said one perpetrator in jail: We played the game by day and lived the game by night.

I could cite to you dozens of similar incidents that tie GTA to murder. Is this what you want to own, along with all its coming liabilities, both legal and spiritual?

Sony and Take-Two designed the GTA: Vice City game to utilize the PS2s Dual Shock controller, which sends a visceral jolt back into the hands of the player each time he kills. Thus, the entire system is a biofeedback, operant conditioning system which desensitizes the user to the act of killing. Skinner would be proud. It is right out of his playbook.
