My Ratchet & Clank Demo Impressions
UltimaEnder, 7 Hours Ago
So I got back from my local EB Games about a hour ago with the new Ratchet demo on Blu-Ray. First let me tell you I have played through it twice (thirty minutes each if you take your time) and it is easily one of the best demos I have EVER played, on top of that I am not a huge platformer (since Mario 64 days).
The demo starts out with a little storyline that the "president" is in trouble and Ratchet and Clank need to get there and help out. After a really cool CG movie, which looks freaking AMAZING by the way, you are off on foot to get to the capital. The first thing I noticed were the graphics, the color scheme is freaking awsome and causes this game to be one hell of a looker, and this is an early demo remember.
The city is huge and the draw distance is very very far, there are some frame rate issues but surely they will be fixed by ship date as this is not another lair in terms of reality type graphics. Personally I am finding this game to pull me in more and more every time I play it graphics wise, the screens out there do no do it justice. Controls are the same as all other Ratchet games but the big stand out this time are the weapons, they are so awsome and only 4 are available in demo (gun, disco, fusion, and transform) but they are sweet. My favorite is the disco ball which causes all bad guys to dance around like idiots as I smash them with my hammer! Besides the normal platform stuff there are also some cool scenes with you skating on a track dodging trains and jumping holes.
During a skydiving scene you use the sixaxis to steer Ratchet left, right, up, or down which is a nice use of the motion sensing stuff and didn't feel tacked on at all. It ends with a little fighting but no boss battle and really left me WANTING, no NEEDING more of this game....I went and paid it off so I will be the first one in line on ship date, man this game rocks! Rep is always appreciated if you like my stuff!
Demo Score: 9/10
