Conflict Desert Storm
There's a conflict, it's in the desert and it's stormy. Sound like a great game, we've got all the details inside.
Video games involving hard core violence are easily some of the best selling in the industry. There's really no explanation, but something about killing and crime seems to help a game gain extra attention, especially in regards to the younger audience. Throughout the years, several developers have become aware of this craze and slowly more and more violence is being added to the average title. When it comes to representing historical events, World War 1 and World War 2 are by far the most used topics. Pivotal Games and SCI are taking a different approach with their upcoming action adventure title. Conflict: Desert Storm sets itself in the early 1990's, during one of the worst one-sided conflicts the planet has yet to witness... the Gulf War. Combining slick visuals, an accurate representation of the war atmosphere, dozens of neat features and a deep storyline, Conflict: Desert Storm already looks like it's being set above the competition.
History isn't every student's best subject, so here's a bit of information on how exactly the Gulf War came about. On the morning of August 2nd, 1990, Iraq sent over 300,000 soldiers on route to invade Kuwait. After several weeks and the failure of diplomatic efforts, coalition forces responded with the planning of a highly strategic offensive operation, codenamed "Desert Storm". The operation quickly became one of the most covered in history, as it appeared on CNN and BBC for days at a time. The Desert Storm mission was a tremendous success, and the courage and bravery of thousands paid off in the end.
The upcoming title allows the player to choose from two of the best known and most feared special operations forces in the world, thus being the elite British SAS and the US Delta Force. The squads are each composed of a team leader, a heavy weapons expert, an infiltration specialist as well as a sniper. The player can switch between the characters at any given time, but it is suggested to let the experts do what they do best. When not being human controlled, the other military forces personnel defend themselves using everything they can. The player is not only in charge of one person's safety, but instead thus of the whole team.
One of the major elements in Conflict: Desert Storm in stealth tactics. In order to achieve objectives, it will take the player a whole lot more then just fire power. Variety truly comes to play in this mission-based title. Pivotal Games has designed a beautiful mixture of objectives, ranging from protecting civilian communities, locating and destroying key military targets to highly secretive rescue and assassination operations in Baghdad itself. Throughout these missions, the player will need to interact with helicopters, tanks and other military forms of transportation. It's near impossible to even stand a chance during war without weapons of course. Conflict: Desert Storm features bazookas, machine guns, pistols and helpful tools like night-vision goggles among dozens of other high-tech toys.
Each operation takes the player through a different hostile environment, all deep within enemy territory of course. The atmosphere puts the player right in the midst of the real war, the smoke, heat haze and dark shadows are all there. The environments are not only based outdoors, as some of them require the player to sneak inside buildings, houses and even military camps.
The reward system in Conflict: Desert Storm is stunning. The game hands out medals and promotions, as well as experience points which allows soldiers to improve from a mission to another. Because the artificial intelligence in Conflict: Desert Storm is so advanced, gaining experience for the whole squad serves more then just base for bragging rights. Fellow team members react realistically depending on the circumstances, and unlike games in the past, they have been programmed to do more then just stand there and get shot one at a time. The quote "All for one and one for all" couldn't suit a better situation.
It is safe to say that Conflict: Desert Storm is a graphics whore. Excuse my language but I couldn't find a better way to describe the beautiful visuals the game has to offer. The weapons themselves are extremely detailed and decidedly realistic. The vast and glorious three-dimensional environments have the same special effects to offer. Characters are modeled nicely, and their clothing and facial expressions help represent that war like feel. When it's all said and done, this is a game graphic tech-heads won't want to miss.
In order to stand out from the numerous titles in the genre, Conflict: Desert Storm will need more then just outstanding cover art and hype. With fast paced action, sexy graphics and a beautiful mixture of stealth and courage, Conflict: Desert Storm could be in to surprise many. Fans of war games and stealthy action should mark September 30th on their calendars, actually, might even be worth writing a reminder on one's forehead. This game is without a doubt extremely promising, and we can't wait to go on our intense killing frenzy upon release. "
