Beta Test and Server Expansion
Thanks to the efforts of all our testers, we have received a wealth of invaluable feedback and information regarding server balancing and gameplay.
The problems we encountered with the servers were more numerous than we originally anticipated. We were, however, able to make improvements throughout the course of the alpha test phase, and as a result we can now head into beta testing under far better conditions and with a concrete grasp of what areas still require attention.
We also took all your opinions and suggestions to heart, and have incorporated a number of alterations into the upcoming beta, from complete overhauls to minor tweaks. Testers can expect to see significant changes to areas in which we received the greatest amount of feedback, including, but not limited to, the user interface and battle system.
Considerable changes to the server setup and gameplay will continue to be made. These will not be worked into upcoming alpha tests, but will instead be implemented for the beta test phase.
We will, however, be introducing a number of new Worlds throughout the remainder of the alpha test. This will be a gradual process as we work to ensure that no connection issues arise while multiple game servers are running simultaneously.
Unfortunately, a World selection feature will not yet be available. We understand the inconvenience this causes, as many of you no doubt wish to create characters on the least-populated Worlds or on the same Worlds as your friends. For now we apologize for not having this option ready, and ask for your understanding and patience for the time being.
Your feedback has already contributed greatly to bettering FINAL FANTASY XIV, and we are striving to incorporate as much of it as possible into the beta and release versions of the game. We welcome all new testers, and hope that they can work together with our “old guard” to continue providing useful and enlightening feedback.
Enjoy your time in Eorzea!

Harmi kun kun menee ensi vuoden puolelle PS3-versio.
Onhan tuo harmillinen veto, molempaan suuntaan itseasiassa, PC & PS3 -pelaajille.
Tell us about the “fatigue” and “dormancy” systems please.
We wanted to introduce a system to reward players who don’t have a lot of time to play. Maybe it looks as though we are placing long playing users at a disadvantage, but the idea is really to let play for short periods be viable.
Won’t that cause some concern amongst players who play for longer?
We want these players to try different classes. If you change class the fatigue doesn’t affect you, so you could try non-combat classes as well. You actually have more play choices now as you can make more characters.
Final Fantasy XIV is a notable entry to the genre but only for what it lacks. It lacks character; bare-bones quests and audiovisual repetition fail to instill a sense of fantasy wonder. It lacks cohesion; communication failures, economic oddities, and stringent limitations leave you constantly directionless. And it lacks joy; the abysmal interface and boring monsters make it a struggle to stay invested. The open-ended classes, the stunning graphics engine, the focus on story--these elements deserve rightful praise. It's a shame they weren't put to use in a game worthy of the Final Fantasy brand. Certainly, Final Fantasy XIV will improve as features are added, yet the failures go beyond the superficial. Updates may address a multitude of flaws, but "fun" is not a feature that can be added with a simple patch.
GameSpotin PC-arvostelu:
4/10 (Poor)

While more than two months have passed since the official launch of Final Fantasy XIV service, we deeply regret that the game has yet to achieve the level of enjoyability that Final Fantasy fans have come to expect from the franchise, and for this we offer our sincerest of apologies.
“After thorough deliberation on how to meet those expectations, it was decided that the most viable step was to approach improvements under new leadership and with a restructured team.
“To realise this vision, and in doing so, provide our customers with a better game experience, we have assembled our company’s top talent and resources. Taking over the role of producer and director is Naoki Yoshida, a passionate individual for whom customer satisfaction has always taken top priority.
Regarding the PlayStation 3, it is not our wish to release a simple conversion of the Windows version in its current state, but rather an update that includes all the improvements we have planned. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of the PlayStation 3 version beyond the originally announced date of March 2011.
