Source:http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1352317-Ranked-Matchmaking-FAQThere are currently 20 ranked levels to work through. Copper, Bronze, Silver and Gold ranks I-IV, Platinum ranks I-III, and Diamond.
- I → IV (4) Copper
- I → IV (4) Bronze
- I → IV (4) Silver
- I → IV (4) Gold
- I → III (3) Platinum
- Special_Snowflake (1) Diamond
Size of divisions: right now it's relatively easy to move through the middle divisions, and a lot more difficult to reach the extreme ends of the spectrum. We're looking to balance this out a little further.
The Important Parts
- Your skill rank is initially computed after 5 placement games, from your skill rating value. Following that, it's updated after each Ranked game you play.
What makes my rank change
- The relative skill levels of the players/teams in the game.
- Whether or not your team won the game.
- KDA doesn’t matter.
- Score doesn’t matter.
- If you abandon a ranked game (whether it's by ragequitting, AFKing or getting votekicked out), it's always counted as a loss for you
- If there's a large skill difference between the two teams and the outcome of the game is what the system expects, the skill adjustment after the game will be minimal (if a bronze team loses to a gold team, it's unsurprising and the skill levels won't change much -- now if the bronze team wins, that's a whole different story)
Random explanation

When you assigned a [bell-curve], the majority of players will be hovering around the Silver II, Silver III mark. If a Silver II team and a Silver III team compete and it results in a draw the Silver II team will gain rank and the Silver IIIteam will lose rank (because of how the system works), the actual rank change will be slightly less than an outright loss.
The system is designed to rank you up faster for beating higher ranked teams (or you could grind you way up by defeating lower teams, but this will be exceptionally slow).
Let's say (example only to show trend, not actual numbers)
- Silver II (10) defeats Silver III (11) → Silver II gains +10, Silver III gains -10
- Silver III (11) defeats Silver II (10) → Silver III gains +9, Silver II gains -9
- Silver I (9) defeats Silver IV (12) → Silver I gains +11, Silver IV gains -11
- Silver IV (12) defeats Silver I (9) → Silver IV gains +8, Silver I gains -8
- Bronze IV (8) defeats Gold I (13) → Bronze IV gains +12, Gold I gains -12
- Gold I (13) defeats Bronze IV (8) → Gold I gains +7, Bronze IV gains -7
Each division has its own 'points' threshold (and obviously you 'rank up/down' based on these thresholds). The gains are calculated via the team average and then applied to each member of the team after the 'gain' has been calculated.
Let's say a player of rank Copper I is worth 1 point and a Diamond Player is worth 20 points.
- A team of 'pure' Copper I players = 5 points/5 = 1
- A team of 'pure' Diamond players = 100 points/5 = 20
Let's say you have a hybrid team of mixed ranks
- A team of 4 Copper I players and 1 Diamond player = 24 points/5 = ~ 4.8 aka Bronze I rank (5)
A team of 'pure' Copper I players vs a hybrid team (4 Copper I, 1 Diamond) would be the same as Copper I (1) vs Bronze I (5). Matchmaking wise, this is roughly the same as Silver II vs Gold II or Gold IV vs Diamond and the 'gains' would be calculated accordingly
